Technology changes Education

University and college Education is changing. More and more people are doing qualification; but the things they study seem to be less and less used in the workplace.
I read earlier this year that 50% of science graduates will never work in science. I keep seeing reports that we have a deficiency of skilled tradesmen; but all the advertising I see is to do degrees at uni. Qualifications that are over supplied seem all the buzz; but training that is under catered for simply doesn't get the same publicity.

Maybe it's sexy to have been to uni; but not so sexy to train as a plumber or brick layer.

"Technology turns the tertiary focus towards external studies"
"Virtual Approach is the new reality of staff and students"
These are two headlines in ads by Open Universities, in the Australian Newspaper this week 26/11/14

A few days earlier UNE advertised online education in a full page advert in a weekend magazine.

Universities and large colleges are spending huge amounts of money lately, on advertising, that appears aimed at winning market share, and steering students increasingly toward studying online, rather than on campus.

One must wonder:  What % of your course fees are going into giving you an education, compared with the % going into "selling" you the course.
