Do you want a job that gets you out of bed with a smile on your face?

Or perhaps you want to have a job that combines production with ethics or even a job where you only work outdoors?

There are many career options out there for you ranging from traditional jobs in environmental management and planning through employment in recycling companies; water and wastewater management; ‘green’ organisations; parks, vegetation and wildlife management; farming and forestry etc.

With our increasing world population and the ensuing intense pressures on the environment, the world has never been in greater need of good land managers.  Looking after our water, soil, plant and animal resources in a sustainable way is vital and this requires an understanding of the many complex parts making up our environment.   Have a look at our large range of courses that can start you off in this field including Conservation-and-environmental-management; Soil-management ; Organic-farming; Trees-for-rehabilitation and Environmental-waste-management

Avoiding land degradation at the start is key.  However, should the worst occur, degraded land can be effectively rehabilitated. Our new ebook  on Land Management and Rehabilitation  explains causes of land degradation and describes how to better manage resources. It shows you how to improve land that is in serious decline by establishing plants and minimising erosion.

An example of land rehabilitation is shown below. The picture on the left is an unprotected water canal in a farming area, showing upslope and bank erosion. On the right, vetiver grass has been planted along the same canal.  The grass is successfully preventing eroded soil and debris from entering the same canal, thus reducing water pollution and the grass has stabilised the canal banks.
